About Us

The Northern Catchments Network Incorporated (NCN) is a community-based organisation that receives strong support from the Brisbane City Council Creek Ranger Program. The NCN has been established to connect individuals and groups across the catchments of Cabbage Tree Creek, Bald Hills Creek and Nundah/Downfall Creek to consolidate efforts, skills and energy for enhanced environmental benefits.

Our Vision is to:

“Protect and enhance our Northern Catchments by connecting people, wildlife and habitat, through education, engagement and better practice to create healthy ecosystems for the future”.

History

The Northern Catchments Network became a registered Incorporation in July 2008.

The idea of the Northern Catchments Network developed from a “Catchment & Corridor Connectivity” workshop held in April 2007. It was identified at this workshop that a more coordinated approach was needed across the Northern Catchments to protect and enhance our local environment. In May 2007, a strategic planning committee formed and has worked in partnership with Brisbane City Council’s Creek Ranger Program and in consultation with a broad range of local environmental group members to develop the Strategic Plan, Vision and Objectives for the newly incorporated Northern Catchments Network.

Founding members of the Northern Catchments Network have come from the Mountains to Mangroves Committee, Friends of Boondall Wetlands, numerous Habitat Brisbane bushcare volunteers, and members of the general public interested in improving the health and future ecological viability of the northern catchments of Brisbane.

The objectives of NCN are:

Supporting & connecting on-ground groups/organisations.
Promoting & working on a catchment-wide approach.
Educating our broad community about better practices.
Linking the arts and environment to build sense of place and sense of responsible custodianship.
Maintaining and enhancing biodiversity (core habitats).
Enhancing habitat connectivity through creating linkages.
Identifying and utilising current and future research into better practices.
Identifying and engaging existing & new stakeholders/ communities.
Building and sustaining NCN capacity.
